Oxford william and Jazz oxford by Ahimsa shoes

«our focus on innovation lies in the search for new sustainable materials and on the simplification of manufacturing processes» Ahimsa was born to serve a single focused purpose: to bring high-quality footwear to the vegan market. When I, Gabriel (founder), turned vegan, I was unhappy with the selection I found available. Since I worked in the industry, I thought it would be possible for me to come up with a simple line of products that could prove my concept. If successful, I could invest more time and money into the project. A few years later, we are still going! Now, since 2014, we also operate our own factory. It was then, and still is, the only 100% vegan shoe factory in the world. Today, continuing our initial goal, we invest time into expanding our collection and always improving what we already have available. The search for new styles, new materials, is never ending! Our constant search for improvements keeps us at the leading edge of our industry. Shoemaking itself is an art, thousands of years old. …

Traces Of A Floor by Dovilė Bernadišiūtė

«I was looking for possibilities for jewellery to work as a mediator. It is interesting to me how does jewellery reflects the buildings within ourselves, talks about memory and absence.» This necklace belongs to the field of contemporary jewellery and is created as part of a series of jewellery pieces entitled “Wearing Space” where I was investigating the relationship between jewellery and the architectural space, in specific the space of transition. I was looking for possibilities for jewellery to work as a mediator. It is interesting to me how does jewellery reflects the buildings within ourselves, talks about memory and absence. The space of transition such as the subway, the train station an airport is an emblem of the contemporary for me. I am interested in the daily movements in these spaces by questioning the way the materials that define architectural spaces affect the human body, and how this relationship with space could be expressed in material terms. How much information does one need to experience a certain space? How to wear space? Necklace “Traces …

COMO – Cork modular by Irena Übler

«The innovative part we see in COMO – cork modular is the adaptability. Imagine one day you use it as a bedside table, a bookshelf, a wine rack or support for your laptop or a playful furniture for your kids»   During the ideation process of COMO – cork modular I was questioning myself how is it possible to create a shelving unit composed out of only a few assembling parts. One of the main objectives was to develop a simple tool-kit inspiring people to assemble their own furniture and make them part of the creative process. Some other questions I had in mind: How far can you go in finding a smart solution in designing an assembling kit for storage units and display formats? How can you produce efficiently and in an ecological way? How can you use cork in an appropriate way? The innovative part we see in COMO – cork modular is the adaptability. Imagine one day you use it as a bedside table, a bookshelf, a wine rack or support for your laptop or a playful furniture for your kids. …

Leixões Ring by MATER jewellery Tales

«Leixōes ring reflects the duality between computational design and craft(…) The production of this piece combines technological approach such as laser cutting with skillful hands.» It has to be seen by touching! This feeling was the impulse to elect Leixões terminal building of Luis Pedro Silva, APDL as inspiration for a new collection. The perception of the “unruled” tiles that cover a large part of the building causes an empathic zig zag that is better felt with your hands, and jewellery is all about touch. This architectonic element also boosts a chromatic vibration between white and golden light, more intense in the sunset. Moving light had to be transposed to the jewellery! Each Leixões ring it’s unique. The production of this piece combines technological approach such as laser cutting with skillful hands. Leixões ring is a handmade jewel, the “tiles” are placed one by one, they vary intentionally but the final result it’s not totally controlled. Also, the burnished, the glance of glow on the borders of these “tiles” requires an expert jeweler. These two words can …

Bucket Bag – Arminho

«Simplicity and detail are the words the better describe our attention on the design of this bag, making something discreet but at the same time unique and something timeless but at the same time contemporary» Our commitment was to create an everyday bag, in a combination of textures and different materials – leather and fabric – using simple lines and design to point up those characteristics and details. Simplicity and detail are the words the better describe our attention on the design of this bag, making something discreet but at the same time unique and something timeless but at the same time contemporary, something that will always look as a well made design object regardless of time/trend/fashion. We have designed these bags thinking about textures and combinations of materials. Design solutions have been found on each step of the creative process, so innovation is not something that we think of on the first step, it happens to overcome our needs because we are also makers and not only designers. We usually don’t think very much about trends, …

R-K Edition Shades by RELVÃOKELLERMANN

«Was dreaming about a squared shape which is contemporary, both for man and for a woman and so simple that it looks like you have already seen it. The sunglasses that one can wear every day.»   There is a motto that both Gerry and I follow as designers which is “if you can’t find it, then make it”. Throughout the years I developed an addition to sunglasses and nowadays spend part of my spare time searching and buying frames. Have been collecting amazing stuff, from the most unknown creators to brands like Moschino, Celine, Acne or Bluemarine. A fact is to find crazy good shapes is way easier than simple good shapes. The best simple shape ever might be the RayBan’s wayfarers. Often considered the best-selling sunglasses of all time they are a true classic of modern design. They became so iconic we can almost call them an archetype. Nowadays one can find many variations of the original shape designed on the 50’s or can be loyal to the classic and get the original …

-2 Chair by Ludovico design studio

«The knitting is in this case singular not for being a new approach to material or technique but because it is crafted by my Grandma. It is paradoxical that she participated in the process of building the satire»   -2 is the project’s name and it is related to the old expression “less is more”. Handcrafted OAK and “Lã de Arraiolos” a mix of natural wool and linen. It’s worked by the 67 years of knitting experience of my grandmother.  Her table manners were slightly strict and didn’t allow different approaches to sitting. I always found it challenging. This challenge helped me to define the shape of the playful functionality of -2.  Ironically my grandmother finished it. The fact is that it is a chair with two legs fewer. This feature is like a “fishing bait” I need to catch the people’s attention and then tell them the story. The knitting is in this case singular not for being a new approach to material or technique but because it is crafted by my Grandma. It is paradoxical that …
