Eclipse table by Ventura Lab

«The eclipse table involves people in order to make them investigate surfaces, feel the different textures and use them according to their understanding of the object.»   The table was named for working with different layers at different heights that overlap. This overlapping of the layers with the whole black color of the table and its rounded ends comes from the inspiration in the natural eclipse phenomenon. With a minimalist and functional design, the product absorbs an abstract concept of nature and transforms it into a geometric object with a simple functionality. In a second moment, the poetic concept stays in the background and gives space for the valuation of the furniture’s surface, which stimulates the user’s touch and perception about the differences between the materials that compose it. These different sensations transmitted by the coexistence of the steel surface and the wooden surface are closely linked to the daily experiences and repertoire of people’s lives, which through affective memory tend to feel a more emotional attachment and warmth in the texture of the wood and …

Palorosa Bags

«Palorosa has a social impact determined by the desire to keep alive local craft techniques, enhancing them through a contemporary vision.»   Palorosa’s vision is to create a sophisticated and minimalist, recognizable aesthetic. An aesthetic born from the union of two cultures, Italian and Guatemalan, architectural and industrial, artisanal and rural. Starting from the origins of a product, a market basket, we wanted to abstract it from its context, without losing its nature and functionality. The basic line of products accompanies you into your journeys and discoveries: you can go everywhere with a basket. The brand uses with care and attention colors and shades, with local materials, mostly the plastic threads, from primarily recycled plastic. Color becomes material which is kindly interwoven into the Palorosa objects and accessories. Since the beginning of the project, the aim has been to study a technique strongly linked to its history, to learn the details and improve them, through a gradual approach on the creation. Palorosa started at my home with an artisan, and since then, we built a …

Grid by Willem van Hooff

«In this project, I show the metal grid in order to highlight its aesthetics. Together these pieces of furniture represent a city landscape. Celebrating the invention of reinforced concrete 150 years ago.»   My inspiration comes from the contrast of a construction site. Reinforced concrete is still the main contact of nowadays architecture. The technique is based on concrete cast around a metal grid. This connection gave humans the ability to work in an impressive big scale, it changed the world of architecture and, hereby our surroundings. Nevertheless, there is one always hidden: The metal grid. It has only been used for its strength inside the concrete. After experimenting, I found a way to let the metal outgrow the concrete, in the casting process. And it turned the composite inside out. Bringing the metal grid to the surface, and giving it a complementary aesthetic function. In this project, I show the metal grid in order to highlight its aesthetics. Together these pieces of furniture represent a city landscape. Celebrating the invention of reinforced concrete 150 …

Cuco Handmade Furniture

«The Collections are composed around the primitive elements (like the themes of NEST and EARTH) that compose the natural world and reflect the patterns of construction that inspire us.»   Cuco Handmade Furniture is a new concept for objects inspiring a closer relationship between human and nature. It was the reflex of a desire to create furniture and objects defining our living space atmosphere. It started 3 years ago with a partnership between two architects who wanted to explore common references. I have an architectural education with a more sensorial approach, passing through experiences with “landart” and architectural practices. Our approach was guided from the beginning by a strong sense of experiencing the pieces, not only in a functional but also in an emotional way. In that sense, it was essential the contact with local crafts and materials from the Portuguese countryside transformed with care by skilled artisans. Other interesting point of view was that imagining the construction of these pieces allowed us to think in a simple assemblage process without any mechanical fixing, just …

Pappmoebel Design

«We’re not a new brand – we started with the first products in 1979, the brand was established in 1985. But the questions that affected us back then are still relevant or becoming even more relevant now: we have to find ways to create products that fit our lifestyle but are also sustainable.»   The concept was basically to make Products from a material that is sustainable as it is recycled and recyclable and that is used in a new way by folding it to give it stability and good shape. Quote from 1979, when the first product, the stool MAKS, was developed: Hans-Peter Stange: “When presenting the stool, most people tended to mistrust the cardboard. The material cardboard is mostly associated with packaging, it is something inferior that will be thrown away. The goal was to use form and a new aesthetics to give the material a new value, a worthiness.“ The technical and formal work is what kept us going, the ambition to prove that it works, to fold and fold until the …

DINA lamp by MOAK Studio

«This product is part of a conceptual collection together with other two products, in which we want to emphasize on the multiple physical interactions we have forgotten in this digital era.»   We have become light dependents and without it, we would have long, sad and in-officious nights, but we have forgotten that it is a resource that we must pay for and we even misspend. What if a lamp helps us to be aware of the value of light, energy, and money? DINA needs money to activate, coins are the ones who transmit power to let it shine. It is more than just a lamp; it is a different way to light up our consciousness. When the coin is inserted, the electrical circuit is activated and the bulbs light up, but not all coins can turn it on. To stand out the concept of the value of light, it only works with large and medium size coins, which usually represent the highest denomination in most currencies. Small ones do not manage to make the …
