Empreita Palm Leaf Backpack by Hode Studio

«The goal was to develop a new contemporary piece for the modern women with the same functionality, using the ancestral technique in order to add value to the craftwork which is disappearing due to mass production.»

palmleafbackpack-hodestudioHode Studio allies the Portuguese handicraft techniques with contemporary design, in a minimalistic atmosphere, using sustainable materials and respecting the people in the supply chain.

“Empreita” is a Portuguese term referred to this old technique used on the South of Portugal, which is based on the interweaving of the palm leaf, usually used for basketry. The goal was to develop a new contemporary piece for the modern women with the same functionality, using the ancestral technique in order to add value to the craftwork which is disappearing due to mass production.

The fact that it is hand-made is contrary to mass production and therefore fits into the growing trend of slow fashion, which is important for sustainable development, especially in the fashion industry, which continues to be one of the most polluting industries on our planet. I think people are increasingly looking for objects with a history that they can relate to emotionally, so Hode Studio wants to work in collaboration with local craftsmen to create unique pieces full of cultural value and timeless designs.
