Thomas Mendonça is a French artist living and working in Lisbon, Portugal. Having collaborated previously with Foco Gallery, both as an artist and curator with ‘PAU DURO CORAÇÃO MOLE’ (2017), ‘O Vírus’ (2018), and ‘Sem medo de criar o chaos’ (2019), Thomas Mendonça returns to Foco Gallery with the solo exhibition ‘Species Novae’. Here, ceramics comes up as a ‘canvas’ that brings together different materials found by the artist, from shells to everyday objects, giving the leading role to the latter.
Addressing the reality of pollution that is increasingly part of sea life, marine life and plastic rubbish were brought together in an open series of ceramics, using an aesthetic language that combines both organic and artificial references.
