After having studied theoretical and applied arts at Stockholm University, La Sorbonne in Paris as well as at UNAM in Mexico City, Sarita develops an approach centered on the aesthetic manifestations of nature by moving in 2018 to a studio designed by Gert Wingårdh located nearby the lake Långhalsen in Sörmland. Birch in all its uniqueness and versatility gradually becomes the starting point of any project, both sculptural and two-dimensional (using the bark of the tree). She exhibits her works in Europe and North America.
Bust is part of Decomposition-composition series. After a long, cold winter in Sweden, SARITA decided to experiment with what melting snow had brought to the surface and combine it with freshly harvested birch bark. This new element is called the vein system or what she calls ‘leaf lace’.
The exposure of dry autumn leaves to humidity and snow during winter makes the complex pattern of hollow veins visible. This new material allows SARITA to create shadows in her works where she plays with both organic shapes and more geometric compositions.
